  11. The future of the AMIGA or some facts and news from the COMPUTER'95 expo
  12. held in Cologne 10-12.11.95.
  13.  
  14. New models:
  15. -----------
  16. First  of all there will be enough new Amiga 1200 and - in the beginning
  17. of the comming year - Amiga 4000T, too.
  18.  
  19. At  the  moment there are NO plans existing about new Amiga models to be
  20. developed,  because A.T.  has NOT the money to pay for new developments.
  21. First  of all they want to have a look on the market in order to see, if
  22. the  Amiga will be still accepted or not.  Seems to be a dark future for
  23. our  little  silicon-girlfriend  but hold on and go on reading about PPC
  24. support !!

  26. AmigaOS 4.0:
  27. ------------
  28. Yes,  you  read right!  A.T.  is planning to push up the existing OS 3.1
  29. with some new features and of course bug-fixing.

  31. The A.T. employee told something about better support for graphic cards,
  32. faster  OS  routines  and  lots  of  new version of libs, datatypes etc.
  33. Should be released somewhere around february '96.

  35. PPC support:
  36. ------------
  37. Yes,  yes  !!   When  walking  around  the expo I noticed a little board
  38. inside a glass- box entitled as MC68030/PPC Hybridcard.

  40. Phase  5,  the  high  quality  german  hardware  wizards  well known for
  41. products  like  Fastlane  Z3, Cyberstorm, Cybervision etc., have already
  42. started developing a PowerPC-based processor-board to be released in the
  43. mid  of  1996.   Let  me  quote  some parts from an info-sheet spread at
  44. Phase5 stall:

  47.  | The  low  cost  PPC board will be shipped with a MPC603e 100++MHz |
  48.  | cpu,  the high end processor card will come with a MPC604 running |
  49.  | at 100MHZ and - when available - even with higher speeds at 150++ |
  50.  | MHz. | Furthermore  there  are  more powerful processors like the |
  51.  | real  64-bit  MCP620  running  with  300MHz in development.  Even |
  52.  | 64-Bit  memoryexpansioncards  and  a  new 64-bit local bus-system |
  53.  | with optional PCI-bridge should become reality on Amiga.  The PPC |
  54.  | card  will  first  be  available  for  A1200 - A3000 - A4000 with |
  55.  | prices at 1000 german marks for the light and 2000,- german marks |
  56.  | for the high-end version.                                         |

  58.  | Furthermore  Phase5  will  rewrite  the  Amiga's  execcore as PPC |

  62.  | produce highquality software running on EVERY configuration.      |
